We all consume natural resources each day as we live our lives and care for our families and friends but few of us know how much resource we use, how our individual use compares to others in the community or how our resource use changes from year to year. The Sonoma County Water Agency and partners have developed the Resource Dynamics website as a way for Sonoma County residents to see how much water our communities consume, how much energy is used to deliver that water and how much greenhouse gas production results from water consumption.  Resource Dynamics will also demonstrate how resource demands are expected to change in future years. We hope that Resourcedynamics.org will help people be more aware of their personal impacts on natural resources, to be motivated to use water wisely, and create a desire to live climate-friendly lives in beautiful Northern California.

Resourcedyanmics.org offers charts that illustrate your community’s water-related natural resource consumption.

Water and Power and GHG
The menu item "Water and Power and GHG" shows how much water SCWA delivers to your community each year, how much energy it takes to deliver that water and how much greenhouse gas is produced to provide water to your city or water district. Charts are available starting for year 2005 and can be projected to future years through 2030. When you go to this page, check your city or water district’s current figures and take a look at how use changes in future year projections. Water use is listed in acre-feet per year. (An acre-foot of water is the amount that would cover one acre of land one foot deep, about 325,000 gallons.) Power use is shown in kilowatt-hours and greenhouse gas production is given in tons per year.

Water and Population
The menu item "Water & Population" shows the approximate water use per person in each community with information about how per-person use is expected to change in future years through 2015. Take a look at your community or water district then slide the chart to the left to see what your community’s individual use is expected to be in future years.

Resourcedyanmics.org is supported by Sonoma County Water Agency (SCWA) a California Special District that provides wholesale water supplies to cities and water districts in Sonoma and Marin Counties. SCWA supplies drinking water for 600,000 Californians as well as wastewater collection and treatment and flood protection services in Sonoma County. The agency actively promotes water conservation, renewable power production, coastal salmon and steelhead restoration and energy and water sustainability.
